The RCS Summer Dinner, Great Exhibition Road Festival & RCSA Magazine
Dear RCS Students, Staff and Alumni,
First of all Happy Easter and hope you and your families have a great Easter break.
I am happy to share some exciting news about upcoming RCSA events so please get your diaries and calendars at the ready!
Stop Press!! We have just secured an amazing venue for the RCSU/ RCSA Summer Dinner this year and our plan is to hold it at the London Postal Museum WC1. This iconic and award winning independent museum tells the 500 year story of British postal communications with interesting exhibits and displays. Our sumptuous dinner will be located in the atmospheric museum with access to the exhibits and displays. It should be a really unique and enjoyable experience. The dinner will be held on the evening of Saturday 6th June which is during the Great Exhibition Road Festival (GERF) weekend making this a great weekend for alumni to spend in London! More details and where to buy tickets will be shared on the website soon.

In addition the RCSA has teamed up with the City and Guilds alumni association (CGCA) to host an “Alumni Lounge” event on the same GERF weekend at Eastside Lounge on Prince’s Gardens. On Saturday 6th June from 10am to 5pm any and all IC alumni will be able to join us during the day for tea/coffee, pastries in the morning, sandwiches in the afternoon to relax, meet up with friends, grab some food or a drink (cash bar). There will also be an informal talk on Mentoring given by Roger Preece, CGCA president and mentoring expert given at 12:30pm. All welcome to attend. No need to book! Hope to see you there!
Finally we are in the process of relaunching the RCSA magazine. The Record of the Royal College of Science Association has a long history, being first published in 1910. For some years The Record was published as an independent supplement to The Phoenix, or to The RCSU Handbook, but between 1985 and 1999 standalone issues captured a fascinating snapshot of student and alumni life at the time. Our initial idea is to again publish a standalone “New Record” capturing the current high level of RCSA activity and supporting our membership and fund raising drives. If it goes well we hope to re-establish the magazine as an ongoing publication. We hope to launch the new magazine before the new 2026-27 academic year and at the moment we are looking for alumni to help us with ideas, articles and advertising for it.
