The RCSA needs your help again!

I trust you all enjoyed a wonderful summer.
As we transition into another academic year at Imperial College, it’s time for the Royal College of Science Association gear up support for and engagement with the current crop of RCS students.
You will know already from our very busy Royal College of Science Association website how active the RCSA has been in recent years and it is crucial we sustain this momentum!
This time, instead of seeking donations or following up on memberships, we’re asking for a bit of your time and direct participation! We are calling for volunteers to help with two specific projects we are planning for the new academic year.
- Careers evenings. Our very successful Biochemistry/Life Sciences careers panel evening back in January this year (see Careers Evening with the Royal College of Science Association) was enjoyed by both the alumni and students, proving invaluable for students navigating their career paths! We are keen to host two more sessions in late January 2026 and we are seeking alumni panellists to volunteer. One panel evening will focus on Life Sciences, the other on Physical Sciences. [UPDATE: Physical Sciences on 20th of January, Life Sciences on 27th of January.] We welcome alumni from all types of careers and age cohorts so if you are interested, have time in January next year and can get into London for a midweek evening then please reach out at contact@rcsa.org.uk.
- Mentoring. We are keen to pilot an informal mentoring scheme where we connect students with alumni mentors, usually in similar degree subject areas but sometimes also in the students target career area. We have a high demand from our undergraduate students for this type of support, especially given the current job market challenges, even for IC graduates! Location is not a barrier, and no mentoring training or experience is required. If you are interested in helping please get in touch via contact@rcsa.org.uk and list briefly your academic and career history so we can try to match you with an appropriate student.
We have a third exciting initiative we need help with. This time in the shape of sponsorship.
RCSU Science Challenge sponsors. Every year the RCSA supports and works closely with the RCSU to put on their annual RCSU Science Challenge competition for school and Imperial undergraduates. It’s a fantastic competition that offers school students their first glimpse of Imperial College and the RCS, sparking their passion for science as a subject area and career option. We are looking for alumni to offer sponsorship (individual or company) to help cover the costs of laying on the event. Please get in touch at contact@rcsa.org if you would like to help.
