Two life science masters students, Eimear Loughlin and Tatiana Dickins, have won the support of the RCSA Trust and of the IC Exploration Board for their 23 day expedition. It includes a challenging 500 mile, 17 day loop of the southernmost island of Japan, Kyushu where they will start on the island of Shimoshima and finish in Kurume and will carry all their gear on their bikes and camp along each stage of the route.
As well as immersing themselves in Japanese culture, the two scientists will monitor the biodiversity of the island by identifying plant and animal species and will upload photographs to BirdNET and iNaturalist.
We wish the pair, the best of luck with this expedition and look forward to reading their post-expedition report and attending their post expedition presentation, to which RCSA members will be invited.
